Planning for your puppy to go home!

What does my puppy come home with?

  1. Vet records
  2. Microchip registration information
  3. Littermate scent blanket
  4. Toy
  5. Leash
  6. Puppy Collar
  7. Travel water bowl
  8. Optional: Trupanion Insurance information & NuVet Plus supplement information

What does my puppy eat & how much?

  • We feed all of our puppies Purina Pro Plan Puppy shredded chicken blend. By the time they go home it is not wet at all, just serve from the bag! Your puppy will come home with a sample.
  • If you would like to change to another high quality food, just mix the sample with your food until it is gone.
  • Purina does offer a rewards program that you can sign up for! Your go home bag will also come with a coupon.
  • We feed 1/3 a cup three times a day. You will increase this as your puppy grows. Follow the chart on the back of the bag based on the age of your puppy and the adult predicted size.
  • Most of our adult dogs like to free feed because they are not big eaters. However, while potty training we recommend set feeding times so you know when they need to potty and how much they are eating!
  • Do not worry if they eat less the first day home! It's a big day for them. Offer food and even hand feed.
  • Always have access to fresh water!

What is a good puppy schedule?

  • This is a sample schedule! But do not feel like you have to follow it exactly. Your puppy will fall into the best schedule for your family.
  • Use this as a guide for a balance or play and stimulation with rest and relaxation for your puppy. A puppy not exercised enough is a recipe for a rowdy puppy and a puppy played with too much is a recipe for an overstimulated puppy!
  • Most of the puppies can make it a long stretch at night as soon as they go home. Do not wake a sleeping puppy! However, some will need a potty break in the middle of the night around 3am or so depending on when they went to bed for the first little bit. If you take them out, just do not talk to them a lot or stimulate them! Keep it calm, dark, and quiet. Go out to potty on a leash, say potty, and then bring them back in to go back to sleep. No need to offer food or water in the middle of the night.

What about training programs?

  • There are a lot of local trainers that offer obedience training as well as puppy kindergarten classes! Ask me for more info about these!
  • We follow Puppy Culture protocols where you want to expose them to new things daily! The more people, places, and animals (that are fully vaccinated and friendly) that they can meet the better! Obviously do not over stimulate them and break it up into different days, but the more they get used to now the more confident they will be as adults! If they are startled at first, let them settle and then do it again! Do it until they don't react, or interact with interest! If they are scared in the car, do it more! Put them in for a bit before it moves, pet them, blow air on them, show them around the car!
